Rolling off today

31st March marks the end of my two years plus involvement in my current project. The time has come to say goodbyes (after others have come and gone). It has been an interesting few years in my current project site due to the wonderful people I have come to know and respect along the way. It reminds me that not all work environments are dull and uneventful.

I remember the first day I arrived at the project site in Bangi, not knowing what to find and how to do my work. Fortunately, thanks to the clients, I was welcomed with open arms and felt a sense a belonging. Of course, one week after I was introduced to the ropes, it was time for the project site to move to another location which was in Menara Dayabumi. Dreading that the new location would be similar to KLCC 'strategic' location and traffic jams, I was pleasantly surprised to know that this wasn't the case. On the contrary, it was a great environment albeit a little old but the facilities have been continually refurbished (including the car parks).

Thus, started my exploits and adventures in the land of Knowledge Management and figuring out how it all works. Initially, I had a peer who showed me around and taught me the ropes and who guided me when required. During this time, I learnt what it meant to interact with various users, project teams as well as vendors. It was also here that I came to know multiple friends (some of which I found worked at my previous companies before)... not to mention, a few Liverpool fans as well :)

Naturally, friendship and bond was formed during my tenure in the project site. A friendship which bonded our common goals and focused our efforts in providing the best service to our clients. By being involved in 'high-level' stuff such as new architectures, new technologies, new processes, I was able to put my technical knowledge to good use in assisting the team in the delivery of tasks. No doubt I have learnt much this few years with the given opportunities provided to me and to garner more knowledge. Along the way, a lot of things happened in my personal life as well (my under construction dwelling was finally completed and I got married and went for my honeymoon :-) )

Accenture

So, time breezed through and here I am today, bidding my farewell and so long to everyone in the team. May the project grow and prosper in the days ahead and the end users can benefit much from the implementation of this project.

Goodbye and so long ! It's been a wonderfully great 2 years with the team and best wishes to everyone :)
Bye

Chinese New Year coming to town

 2010

Well well, it's almost the time of the year that Chinese all over the world celebrate the new year. This is the time of the year when families get together, eat together and renew ties. This year marks the first year of my marriage and as custom dictates, me and my wife will be distributing ang pows to the little ones and single guys n gals.

 Fireworks

Going back to yester-years I can still remember the time when fireworks were aplenty and there was always news of kids getting injured from home-made firecrackers. That's when the government started to clamp down on the merriment by banning fireworks.  In my area which is pre-dominantly Chinese populated, there is always the sound of fireworks as well as the noises coming from lion dance troupes.

Lion dance

This year though, the fanfare around town seems to be more subdued as evident from Chinatown areas such as Petaling Street where the atmosphere is distinctly normal. I guess this is why the traders there have engaged lion dance troupes to perform so as to attract more visitors and tourists. Decorations seems to be few as well except in shopping complexes where there is evidently a price war going one for the past several weeks. This has benefited the shoppers as prices of consumer goods dropped. In the past two weeks, yours truly have also gone to shopping with his beloved and bought new clothes and foodstuff.

Petaling street

This year I look forward to CNY to spend time with my family as well as my in-laws. It's a good time to bring cheer to children and enjoy the festivities.

Last but not least, Happy Chinese New Year to everyone .. let the Tigers roar :)

2010 is here ...

2010/01/28 - Hi everyone, it has been 2 months plus since my last blog post. A lot of happenings have come and gone in my life. Details of events past are arranged below (by chronological order). Today marks the 2nd month I am married. It's a wonderful feeling to be a husband to a wife that you love and care about deeply. Here's the chronicle of my journey into wedding bliss so far ...

Wedding, new status
For those who don't know, I have officially stepped into the next journey of my life. Yes, married life :) Hard to believe that my wedding dinner was just 2 months ago, seems like it happened just yesterday. I would like to take this opportunity to present my thanks to everyone who attended my wedding dinner. It was a joyous (and absolutely tiring occasion).  Once in a lifetime, they say .. I positively agree with that statement coz the planning, emotions and effort put into making the final day a success makes it rewarding to see it coming into fruition.

New Year, new beginnings
2010 has begun and it's been a great week so far. Lots of work and lots of planning for the year. Got my key to my duplex condo (will post photos soon) and it's great to own a house in the sky. Currently undergoing defect rectification works by the developer. So far, found less than 100 defects and few major ones.New year resolutions haven't been made yet .. or more precisely I haven't had time to do anything personal much except work. This few weeks have seen me going to and from customer data centre due to issues with the production servers.

Technology
On the tech front, I upgraded my mobile phone (Samsung Omnia 2) to Windows Mobile 6.5. Been playing with it so far and there doesn't seem to be much difference from 6.1 other than the nice honeycomb menu. Not really recommended to install unless your internal storage has 1 GB or more memory. The reason is that WM 6.5 takes up a lot of memory space and leaves only a measly 30 MB (60 MB available with 6.1). This has been the main concern highlighted by other users in all Omnia 2 forums. By the way, here's a list of forum sites I visit for Omnia 2 resources :

1. http://i8000.modaco.com
2. http://www.mobinauts.com (search for Omnia 2)
3. http://www.persian-forums.com (games)
4. http://wvga.pda4you.org

On the global technology front, the start of the year has seen a few companies bouncing back such as Intel and Apple. Have been keeping an eye out for new smartphones but there doesn't seem to be any new ones till Sept / Oct at least. HTC HD2 is the best Windows Mobile phone out there but I am waiting for new ones that are not so bulky such as HTC Obsession. WM 7.0 is touted to be introduced during the Mobile World Congress in Feb by Microsoft, supposedly rewritten from scratch to appeal to users. Personally, it's a lot of hype and as usual there will be delays :)

Entertainment
Movies movies movies .. watched Tooth Fairy last week starring Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson. A so-so movie, watchable on DVD. Other movies include :

- 2012 (mediocre fare on end of world destruction and farcical ending on humoungous submarine).
- Avatar (blue aliens ? come on seriously .. the storyline needs to be polished more, hard to believe it has grossed more than Titanic and making JC Lord of the Universe)
- Alvin & the Chipmunks (squeaky chipmunks who can dance and sing, this time meeting their competition in the form of curvy n pretty Chippettes)

Yet to watch :
- Ninja assassin (starrring Rain showing off his bare chest as usual)
- The Spy Next Door (Jackie Chan's latest comedic adventure)
- Sherlock Holmes (Robert Downey Jr won Golden Globe for Best Actor in a Musical / Comedy .. I was wondering if this movie is am musical :P)

Well, that's all for this new year 2010. Best wishes to all in this year of the Tiger.
