Honda Freed
Written by Jason Loo
Saturday, 22 May 2010
Was servicing my car today and I saw the new Honda Freed in the showroom. Looked around front and back, side and inside. While dimensions are pretty big inside, somehow the shape and ergonomics of stuffing 2 seats behind is a little cramped. Compared to Proton Exora and Nissan Grand Livina, I would still prefer Exora or Livina (not comparing to higher end models such as Toyota Wish or Honda Stream RSZ).

Having said that, engine block is small providing better space allocation in the rear. There is leg room in between the back passenger seats (although I did have some problem maneouvring due to my flexibly large body shape :P). I tried sitting in the second row (directly behind driver seat) and I was feeling a bit cramped.

Tallking about engines, it is a 16valve SOHC i-VTEC 4 cyclinder 1.5l, 5 speed automatic. Rims are 15" (185/65). Doors come with mirror side lamps, 4 speakers and dual-front airbags.

From the price list, On-The-Road (OTR) price with insurance is RM 112,980.00 (3 years warranty) and RM 115,180 to add original Modulo accessories.

Enjoy more pics after the jump :)

2010 PC Fair 1
Written by Jason Loo
Friday, 16 April 2010

Cool 16th April 2010 - 1st PC Fair of the year .. woohoo .. i think it's been 2 years since I last came to a PC Fair. So happens I am in KLCC and there's PC Fair held in KL Convention Centre. The intention was to survey the prices and see what PC fair has become. The last time I went, the prices were not much different from those in Low Yat and the bundling and free gifts accompanying bundled products was sorely lacking.

So there I went and arrived on Level 3 at the featured sponsor booths. The recognizable ones were Dell, Toshiba, EpiCentre, Lenovo, Philips and Western Digital. Prices were cheap compared to two years ago. Most noticeably were the low prices of notebooks (Note : Fujitsu promotion for notebook at RM 1999, specs and design are good) and portable hard disks (500 GB 2.5" at RM 259 Seagate / Western D with free pouch). Also, showgirls were back in force this year with a lot of young gals posing with a lot of guys with DSLR (a good excuse to know gals .. kaka). I suspect the camera group will return in force over the weekend.

After that was the Audio section. Every year it seems to be the same .. not much fanfare except for the loud basses and irritating 'noise'. Would have hoped they know how to design an acoustic soundproof booth to demo their products by now.

Other booths along Level 3 saw more laptop and more premium e.g. Sony, HTC, Samsung .. products wise .. Samsung was showcasing the LCD Tvs, Sony was showcasing the 3D TV with 3D glasses while Acer and Fujitsu strutted their wares. HTC was not showing  anything much, probably because it was early.

Moving on downstairs were the accessories and telco broadband providers (there is a funny story later on this). The notable booths in this hall was Buffalo who were selling the portable 3.5" and 2.5" at competitive prices with Seagate and Western D. Most notably is the 3.5" 1 TB hard disk going for RM 290 . .that's a blast :)

After that, there were a lot of Dell booths which I didn't mention much as the products were almost the same and there were no Alienware products present in the one or 2 booths I visited. Accessories galore as retailers like Thundermatch set up several bargains bin booth with numerous things like USB fans, keyboards, thumbdrives etc. For those who want to buy Kingston products, please note that they have a redemption counter for those who bought Kingston products (only available at selected booths, please ask the seller if purchase is eligible for redemption). They also have a lucky draw if you buy 2 or more products.

Microsoft, Seagate, Nikon, Panasonic and Courts Mammoth, Pendrive were some of the interesting booths that were there promoting and selling their products at reduced prices with bundled accessories.

I was also looking out for monitors but there were not many showcase booths with the full range of monitors (besides the manufacturer booths). Present were brands like ViewSonic, Samsung etc. Surprisingly, I didn't see LG booth. Inkjet refills and some gaming products such as Razer were also present and accounted for. In summary, Intel Core i3 and i5 was the main feature mainstay throughout the laptops and PCs being sold. Less focus was on AMD. I wonder how the CPU wars are going to fare once the many-cores come out it full force.

Another booth of note was the magazine booths such as HWM and PC.Com. I was interested in the the promotion for PC.Com as they were giving out 320 GB 2.5" portable hard disk for one year subscription @ RM 158. However, this was limited to 100 units daily so I wasn't able to get it. For those who need it, go n grab PC.Com subscription at their booth today.

Now, to the interesting story. Upon reaching the end of the PC Fair halls near the exit .. there will be a lane thronged by the telco gangs .. akaka .. i say gangs as it reminds me of mobsters going after people. You will see Maxis and Digi booths opposite each other with their promoters lining up and promoting their wares to people who wanted to exit the halls. The same was going on for wireless broadband providers P1 and Amax although they didn't have such big a gang as Maxis and Digi :)

Well, that's it then for this installment of PC Fair. Hope I can go for the next one and purchase a monitor .. 23" Full HD will be nice. Till then, have a fun time at the PC fair, hope my article helped you to shed some light on what you needed. Ciao.

Fullhouse @ Sunway Pyramid
Written by Jason Loo
Thursday, 15 April 2010

Forgot to upload photos I took during one of my romantic xcursions to delightfully decorated restaurants. One of such was the few months back recently opened restaurant named Fullhouse. This pictures were taken by me on a weekday a few months back.

Had occasion to sit down with my wife and had dinner there. Food there was mediocre but there were some cute decos.

Here's some pictures :
