Looking back at the list of popular searches provided by Google last year, there were several interesting facts :
On their fastest rising searches was Facebook .... in a country where the majority goes to Facebook daily, it is surprising to see people still searching for FB. Besides that, Maharaja Lawak is a very popular search term.
Searching in Google turned up a trove of videos on Maharaja Lawak which is a reality show. The popular gadget search were iPhone 5, iPad 2 and Samsung Galaxy while the rest were mainly popular video-related contents (Aishiteru and Tonton). Angry Bird was also there and "Jawatan Kosong" were probably inter-connected :P (those too free to look for work search to play Angry Bird at the same time). On the fastest rising car-related search was the popular car made in Malaysia (MyVi / Perodua). The others were mainly European makes such as Mercedes and Audi while only 2 Japanese makes made the list i.e. Honda Insights (tatz right .. with an extra S .. new model perhaps ?) and Lexus. Hyundai also made the list, not surprising since 2011 was an achievement year for the Korean makes with attractive pricing, and nice designs.
Popular people search included foreign stars such as Bruno Mars, Avril Lavigne, Justin Bieber, Rihanna while local ones were Hana Tajima, Cikgu Shida, Anwar Ibrahim, Fatin Liyana, Ustaz Kazim and Hanis Zalikha.
Top news covered such hot news as Japan nuclear crisis and Thailand flood while events such as Malaysian grand prix and Malaysian open were searched as well. Entertainment related news such as MJ funeral and MTV movie awards were searched as well.
Those who are most cost-conscious were searching for the Malaysian Budget 2012 as well. Foreign news that made the list were the Kennedy space center and Kentucky derby. Now this is the curious part .. popular image searches included Justin Bieber (WTF ... 2011 was the year of the Bieber). There were also some rather curious search terms such as Monster energy, Supra shoes, Fixie bike and Domo Kun.
On the celebrity front as well was the search for Jules Verne and Chelsea Olivia as well as searches for smiley face, kartun muslimah and background designs. Now, on the slightly educated search for what is ... geek terms such as jailbreak, ipad, ppvrip, android, lmao, hacking were in the top list. However, it was rather curious to see what are words and what is information being searched. g6 referring to the government coalition was also searched.
Among the top tv shows were american idol 2011, supernatural, bones season 7, My Princess, naganma serial, amazing race 18, x factor usa, Al JAzeera. The one that I didn't know of was ANTM.
Moving on is the list of top international travel destinations which included Kowloon/Hong Kong, Su Mei Island, Thailand, Phuket, Bangkok, Maldives, Disneyland Hong Kong, Taipei, Paris Disneyland, New York and Caribbean.
Top blogs searched for included Blog Serius, Beautifunara, Papagomo, Jejariruncing, Honeykoyuki, Oh Bulan, Kari ngeri, Malaymoviesfull, My Resipi and IniBelogSaya.
