Before Chinese New Year, I had the opportunity to try out one of the fast growing food chains around town, Hon Kee Porridge in Kepong. Notably, this chain started from one of the popular stalls in Petaling Street.

Hon Kee Porridge is one name which is synonymous with good porridge especially the raw fish porridge. Besides the original stall in Petaling Street, I had the chance to try it out in one of their first franchises in Damansara Uptown. At that time, I did not bring my cam so I didn't posted any review. My wife and I had a bowl of raw fish porridge which we shared and it brought back memories of when I had my first taste in Petaling Street..
Anyway, here's a bit of history on Hon Kee's origins (source : http://www.wikistreetfood.com/Franchise:Hon_Kee_Porridge).
- Hon Kee Porridge has been serving its famous porridge since 1949
- The Hon Kee name spans three generations starting from their late grandfather Wong Yu Wah
Well, that's a bit of history. 1949 till today 2011 . .that's a span of 62 years .. and I am sure it has garnered a lot of fans over the years..
Now, with the openings of its franchise outlets around town, it has spanned a following of foodsters who are porridge aficionados.
Prices are typical of such franchises, ranging from RM 5 upwards for a single big bowl of porridge. Here are some photos from the various items we ate :
Overall, food was fair and there was a variety of items to be chosen. One of the interesting things is the stall outside selling yow char koay and other snacks.
